Keep Calm Mom, you’re not alone and we have all been there. Do you have a bed wetter? It’s okay if you do, I have 2 in my home. In no way shape or form does this mean you haven’t done everything you could possibly do to prevent this, it’s common and to prove that to you I have found some information for you to look at.
Did you know that Bedwetting is common. One of out six 4-12 yr olds wets the bed?
I hope you are ready to tackle this familiar experience that most moms you see daily on the street or at PTA meetings have or have gone through with their little ones. Bed Wetting can happen at any age and is not biased in any way, it doesn’t matter what your weight, height, skin color or even what your income is, Bed-wetting happens to all sorts of kids. I am not a doctor and do not claim to be one, I am however a mother of 4 children. My two youngest of my batch of 4 are/have experienced bed wetting. Through the years, I have tried and tested different methods that have come from many different resources. I have found out the best hacks and tricks to help my children sleep through the night and I am here to share them with you.
I have previously spoken about my oldest daughter Keturah experiencing bed wetting when she was 5 years old. One cause of bedwetting can be attributed to a physiological experience. When my youngest daughter was born in 2013 my oldest daughter Keturah loved everything about her sister and embraced her with loving arms. As much as my oldest daughter Keturah loved her sister, her welcoming her younger sister into the family meant her accepting she was no longer the baby of the family and that now her little sister would need all of my attention. Thus setting off an unconscious event of her wetting her bed, a way of regressing back into the diaper stage which her younger sister was in at this time.
Keturah didn’t mean to do this, but there was such a sudden change in her life that was not just physical, but emotional. At the beginning we thought it was just a slip-up and she would get back on track, but when we noticed her wetting the bed more than 3 times a week I had to take action. I had heard so many great things about the GoodNites® bedtime pants I ran to my nearest CVS store, made my way to the diaper aisle and bought a pack for her. I then researched, sought out help from other moms on the internet and in person, until it finally clicks in my head that I needed to go to the source and talk directly to my daughter. With some moms, this would have been the first thing they did, but with me and my situation, it wasn’t and it took some time before I found the right words to say to her. Here is what I said to her and I finally was able to figure out what would work for her and our family.
After our one to one talk, she admitted to me that she missed being the baby of the family and that she really missed spending time with me. She also admitted she has become afraid of the dark and doesn’t like traveling to the bathroom on her own anymore. This was very helpful information that leads the way to how I could further help my daughter with her current situation. After fine tuning what worked for her I found out that a routine was what she needed. Three years have passed since then and now Keturah baby sister is now 3 years old and suffers from bedwetting just like she did just a few short years ago. Now that Keturah and I are experts in how to cope with Bedwetting, we are able to give Keturah who suffers from bedwetting on and off still, as well as her sister the things they need to cope and grow.
This is what worked for us and we hope it helps your family as well.
Talk about it. Take 1 minute and talk about it, sometimes it’s as easy as talking about what’s going on with your child, if the won’t talk to you ask for them to draw a picture to show you how they are feeling. Ask the questions above and ask them to draw about what they how they feel. My little one is too small to express some of her feelings in words so I like to ask for her to show me in her drawings how she feels in as much detail as possible.
Get to tools you need. Snag a bag of GoodNites® bedtime pants to help your child feel more secure at night. This will help you and your child feel secure about not waking up wet in the morning. This isn’t about enabling your child to wet the bed, it’s about making them comfortable at night so they don’t wake up disappointed about them wetting the bed again. Why do I love the GoodNites® bedtime pants? They offer a 5 layer protection, odor absorbing, are made with a quiet, soft fabric for a restful night’s sleep,
Favorite sheets and pillows. My daughter’s love Disney princesses so when I found their favorite sheets and pillows I explained to them that the princesses do not want to get wet at night. So to keep them happy and dry we have to try to wake up at night and make it to the potty. Make it a point to let them know that the princess’s will not get upset if they get wet, they will just be very happy if they don’t. Praising your child on the morning the sheets are dry is a great thing to do as well, I like to tell my little one that Elsa and Ana are so happy that she was able to keep them dry that night and can’t wait to go to sleep with her again later that night.
Read a story before bed. I know I know mom, life is hectic and sometimes it’s a miracle we make it to the end of the day without losing a shoe. Taking time to read a book to your little ones really makes their day, it’s part of the girls daily routine that they love to talk about throughout the day. Spending this little yet big to them amount of time at the end of the day is what the doctor called for. The girls get their one on one time with me, and they also get to relax before it’s actually time to close their eyes. It’s a wonderful thing I loved starting with them and hope they pass down to their children.
Tucked in. Those little kisses you get to receive at night are gold. They cost nothing yet are the one most valuable thing you will receive throughout the day. My girls love to get their goodnight kisses and get tucked in at night. I won’t lie, life as a single mom of 4 is very hectic and let’s face it, the boys are too old and cool for me to tuck in. So tucking in the girls at night is one of the highlights of my day. It’s a chance give that last little bit of love we can before they both drift off into slumber land.
Night Light. To cure any type of fears or maybe anxiousness about going to sleep my girls love to look at their night light as they go to sleep. This is also perfect for when they wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Their room is lightly lit and they are able to navigate through it.
Light the way. I have a series of lights to light the way for my little ones to use at night for those late night potty breaks. I love having them for the girls because even though the walk is not that far from their bed to their potty, they love having that sense of security. I think it’s great because even I struggle as an adult to get to the bathroom when it is too dark in the room and hallways.
Lastly, I recommend to you and your little ones that you give tons of hugs and kisses because mom you are the best! As hard as it is to deal with your daily responsibilities regardless of what the world throws at you, you rock and you take the time out of your day to research ways you can help your little one. Do not feel upset about what’s going on, but empowered to take on this task and move forward with the things you have learned and rejoice in the notion that you are definitely not alone! There was nothing you did wrong in the potty-training process and you are without a doubt still a rock star mom!
To get your little one started on your journey to bed wetting no more! You can find your GoodNites® bedtime pants at your local CVS Pharmacy and find this awesome product in the diaper aisle. Look for them at the end of the aisle.
The GoodNites® bedtime pants have Cool designs including Marvel’s Iron Man (S/M) or camo print and skateboards (L/XL) for boys and Cool designs including Disney’s Cinderella (S/M) or hearts and butterflies (L/XL) for girls. So cool! My girls love the Disney princess characters and love how they match their bed sheets.

My little ones always wore goodnites to bed before they were completely night trained. We had a couple of issues but they didn’t last long. Love the Doc McStuffins jammies!

I am way past this phase of raising children. I would say I was fortunate that I did not have so much trouble with potty training my kids. I will pass on these tips to my daughter who is starting her own family. She would need to be prepared when her son enters this stage.

There are times during potty training wherein they’ll have accidents while sleeping and it sometimes blows their confidence away. It would be nice to have something like this!

We loved Goodnites when my kiddos were toddlers. They helped everyone make it through the night comfortably 🙂

I think Goodnites are a great product for kids that need them. They can help them throughout the night. My girls use to have some accidents at night, but not anymore. These would have been really helpful.

GoodNites are a great way for kids to feel confident at night. I wish they had these when my kids were little.

Thankfully neither of mine were bed wetters. I did cut off most liquids 2 hours before bed and made them try to potty more frequently a few hours before bed too.
Stacie @ Divine Lifestyle says
GoodNites are so great. They protect the kids and their beds without being so “diapery”.

I love good nights. My older son wet the bed. I never made a huge deal about it. I just changed the sheets and kept going. I had a plastic liner on his bed.

She is just so dang cute, and that pony of hers is adorable too! It’s good that there’s help for stuff like this.

We are in the middle of the whole potty training thing right now with my daughter so we have been buying good nites!

I went through this with my son until he was 5 or 6. He just slept so soundly that his brain didn’t signal to him to get up and go! We did exactly what you did, asked questions, figured out solutions and didn’t make a big deal about it. It’s really not a big deal – it’s just pat of growing up!

Great ideas! I will be potty training in a few months as we start when our kids are 18 months.

definitely some good tips, and advice for parent’s who think it’ll never end. It will, one day, and probably out of the blue. One of mine struggled with bed wetting for a long while but grew out of it eventually after trying meds and other stuff over the years. Finally just naturally happened. Products like these are a huge help and keeping their confidence and pride in tact helps a lot, too!

Once we got out of the potty training stage, we didn’t have any issue with my son wetting the bed. I know that is not the case for many kids. I can totally understand how your daughter would have felt not being a baby in the family anymore.

We are still working on this. I have had those same conversations only to be told that “I am too tired” and it is just so frustrating.

I wonder what happened with my comment but yes, I was saying that those are some nice suggestions. And the idea of having those absorbers are for comfort and not for tolerance.

We used Goodnights on my daughter who was a ridiculously heavy sleeper and just didn’t wake up to go to the bathroom.

We are going to be potty training soon enough so this will definitely be helpful!
